Publish with KITLV Press

Why publish with us
KITLV Press is a prime academic, not-for-profit outlet for the publication of peer reviewed scholarly articles and monographs in the fields of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies. Even on a worldwide scale, very few publishing houses can rival the expertise and dedication that we allocate to our publications.

Editorial expertise
Our editors and other employees aim to publish and deliver books and journals that can compete with any other publication in the field. To that end, KITLV Press invests considerable resources in its publishing programs. Your book or article will benefit from our expert editorial attention.

A publisher with dedication
KITLV Press prides itself on its high editorial and production quality requirements. Authors who have published with us praise our standards in this regard. "I applaud KITLV Press for the brilliant work on the book and for the great team you have. It has been a privilege and a pleasure working with you" (Dr Peter Carey, author of The power of prophecy: Prince Dipanagara and the end of an old order in Java, 1785-1855, KITLV Press, 2007).

KITLV Press is a partner of Google’s Book Search Program. We offer selections from our publications through this service, enhancing their visibility to the wider scholarly community.

Issues of two of our flagship journals are available online. We are working to expand this service, and include older volumes of those titles in this free service.

Affordable publications
Based on our mission to guarantee the widest possible availability of our publications, KITLV Press continues to apply an appropriate pricing policy. This ensures that your article or book is affordable for all intended audiences.

International distribution / conferences
We sell and distribute our publications throughout Europe, both to institutional and individual customers. Our exclusive agents ensure availability of our publications in other parts of the world. In addition, our APSEA membership enables us to promote your book more efficiently on a worldwide scale.
KITLV Press attends every major international conference in the fields of its specialization. At some of these, we are represented by our agents.

The editorial process
Editors at KITLV Press will commence their work on manuscripts following a positive decision by the Editorial Board, and after the author has applied the appropriate guidelines. Initially, the editorial process will focus on the use of these guidelines, and the degree to which the author has incorporated comments of the Board and the peer reviewers. The manuscript will also be checked for completeness, and illustrations for their compliance with our technical specifications. In the case of an English manuscript, written by an author who is not a native speaker of English, special attention will be given to the quality of the language for a scholarly publication.
The next steps include a thorough check of the notes, references and bibliography, followed by thorough reading of the manuscript itself. Once the final version of the manuscript has been established, it will be prepared as a printing document. The author will have one final opportunity to read through this document. At that point, the author is also expected to create an index to the manuscript.
In every phase in this process, editors may contact the author with relevant questions and remarks, intended to enhance the quality and consistency of the publication.

Author’s questionnaire
KITLV Press provides each author with a questionnaire. This document is intended to collect and organize relevant information that helps us to promote and market your publication on the international markets. Please click on the appropriate option below (according to the language in which your monograph is written) to consult such a questionnaire in the language of your choosing.
