30 Sep ‘Democracy for Sale’ in Indonesian media

Earlier this year KITLV-researcher Ward Berenschot published Democracy for Sale: Elections, Clientelism and the State in Indonesia (co-authored with Edward Aspinall). In the light of ongoing protests in Indonesia against the revised law on Indonesia’s anti-corruption agency KPK, some Indonesian media have used the book to discuss corruption and the role of money in Indonesian elections. The newspaper Tempo, for example, has produced a short video that provides a visual summary of the part in the book about the costs of election campaigns.

The book has also taken up in the now steady stream of newspaper articles on the oligarchic nature of Indonesia’s politics. Here is a sample of articles:
