KITLV jaarverslag 2022

2022 was het eerste jaar van Diana Suhardiman als nieuwe directeur van het KITLV. Met haar expertise in het veld van natuurlijke hulpbronnen, duurzaamheid en klimaat heeft zij het instituut een belangrijke nieuwe impuls gegeven. In juli werd zij benoemd tot bijzonder hoogleraar ‘Natural resource governance, climate and equity’ aan de afdeling Culturele Antropologie en Ontwikkelingssociologie van de Universiteit Leiden.

Helaas moest zij haar aanstelling in januari 2022 beginnen in een leeg instituut, als gevolg van de nog geldende lockdown. Ze was daardoor genoodzaakt om online met de staf kennis te maken. Gelukkig betekende 2022 ook het einde van de coronacrisis. In maart vervielen in Nederland de laatste maatregelen, waarmee ook het KITLV weer volledig open kon. Veldwerk in Indonesië werd in de loop van het jaar weer mogelijk. In de Cariben was dat eerder al het geval. Voor de onderzoekers van het KITLV betekende dit een grote opluchting.

The year 2022 was the first with Diana Suhardiman at the helm as the KITLV’s director. Through her expertise in the fields of natural resources, sustainability and climate, she has provided the institute with significant fresh impetus. In July, she was appointed Professor by Special Appointment of Natural Resource Governance, Climate and Equity at Leiden University’s Department of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology.

Starting her tenure in January 2022 unfortunately meant doing so in an empty institute due to the lockdown still in place. She therefore had to make the acquaintance of the staff online. Happily, 2022 also heralded the end of the coronavirus pandemic. The remaining measures in the Netherlands were lifted, allowing the KITLV to open fully once again. Over the course of the year, fieldwork in Indonesia again became a possibility, with that opportunity having already been reinstated in the Caribbean. This came as a great relief to KITLV researchers.
