16 Apr Article | India goes to the polls
New article by Vignesh Rajahmani et al. in the London School of Economics South Asia Blog, ‘India goes to the polls’.
KITLV researcher Rajahmani and co-author Raghunath Nageswaran examine the electoral strategies via a resource-discourse-personnel matrix of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The authors present the context and list challenges for India’s political opposition, while also registering the persistence of pockets of hope and electorally viable opposition.
Beginning later this week, national elections in India (the world’s most populous country) will happen over 6+ weeks, with results being declared on 4 June. Vignesh Rajahmani and Raghunath Nageswaran look at the context in which the elections are happening, and how Opposition political parties — through formal alliances or individually — continue to challenge the dominance of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
