Youth Language: Multilingualism in a Global Context
We are happy to announce the 9th International Conference on Youth Languages, which will be held on May 23–25, 2019 at Leiden University, The Netherlands. More than 30 researchers from Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia and other regions will present their ongoing research in the field of youth languages, discuss future collaborations, and engage in networking activities.
Youth languages, sometimes labelled as Urban Youth Languages or Contemporary Urban Vernaculars, are global phenomena. Focusing on the thematic orientation “Youth Language: Multilingualism in a Global Context” this conference discusses theoretical or empirical issues in written and spoken manifestations of youth language from any part of the world including the attitudes and ideologies related to them. As a continuation of the previous conferences, it features papers on regional varieties, digital communication, and language use in didactic contexts.
