13 Apr Interview with Jessica Roitman about Jews in the Caribbean

KITLV researcher Jessica Vance Roitman was interviewed about the history of Jewish colonization in the Dutch Caribbean in the 17th and 18th centuries for the program ‘De Kunst van het Luisteren’ on the Joodse Omroep. Roitman discussed the history of the Jews in Dutch Brazil, Curacao, Suriname, St. Eustatius, and New York, including such topics as their relationship to non-Jews, slave ownership and slavery, poverty and migration from the Dutch Republic. The program aired on Sunday night the 12th of April but can be listened to via the website.
