09 Jun Library Committee / Bibliotheekcommissie
The rich KITLV collection was formed between 1851 and 2014. As of 2014, its management was transferred to the Leiden University Library, while its ownership remained with the Vereniging (Members Association) of KITLV. Material belonging to the KITLV collection can now be requested through the UB catalogue.
As a group of volunteers and frequent users of the KITLV collection, we have joined forces to try and assist KITLV members to access this material and address questions they may have. Our aim is to use our expertise to connect users with the appropriate staff members within and outside the library. We also advise the Leiden University Library on issues faced by those who use the KITLV collection. For example, we report problems in finding material and/or using the UB catalogue, recommend books for the Library to purchase, and cooperate with the promotion of events or developments relevant to the KITLV collection. We direct questions to the appropriate members of staff and archive them in an attempt to assess how structural particular issues are.
Many of us have already been doing these things on a personal level, so that the establishment of an official “soundboard” seemed a logical next step to us, and equally to KITLV, its Members Association and the Leiden University Library. We hope you will not hesitate to contact us with questions, comments and suggestions regarding the wonderful KITLV collection!
